How to use this ETF directory
An exchange-traded fund (ETF) holds a basket of assets, stocks, bonds or commodities, and trades on an exchange like a single stock. The two numbers that matter most when comparing funds are the expense ratio (the annual fee deducted from returns) and, for income investors, the dividend yield (the percentage return for every dollar invested relative to the dividend payment earned). A broad index ETF like VOO charges just 0.03% a year; a thematic or covered-call fund can charge 0.35% to 1.00% or more.
Sort the table above by any column to find the lowest-cost or highest-yielding funds, or jump to a curated category like the best dividend, growth, gold or index ETFs, where the top funds are ranked and compared on the metrics that decide long-term returns. Every figure is sourced from the fund's own filings, and any of it can be pulled straight into Excel or Google Sheets.
ETFs Frequently Asked Questions
There are more than 3,000 exchange-traded funds listed on US exchanges, spanning equity, bond, commodity and specialty strategies. This directory covers them all, sortable by yield, expense ratio, assets under management and one-year return.
An index fund is any fund that tracks a market index; an ETF is a fund structure that trades on an exchange like a stock. Many ETFs are index funds, but ETFs trade throughout the day at market prices, while traditional mutual-fund index funds are priced once daily at net asset value. ETFs are also generally more tax-efficient.
A low expense ratio for a broad index ETF is roughly 0.03% to 0.20%. Large index funds like VOO and VTI charge about 0.03%, while thematic, actively managed and covered-call ETFs often charge 0.35% to 1.00% or more. Because the fee is deducted from returns every year, small differences compound significantly over long holding periods.
Among mainstream funds, high-yield and covered-call ETFs like JEPI and SPYI yield roughly 7-9%. Single-stock option-income funds such as those in the YieldMax family can show headline yields above 50%, but those distributions are largely a return of option premium and come with high volatility and price erosion. Our high-dividend and monthly-dividend category pages rank these funds with the risks explained.
